Of the three French competing at the Rome Masters on Monday, Julien Benneteau and Michael Llodra have qualified for the second round at the expense of Sam Querrey, and Andreas Beck. In contrast, Paul-Henri Mathieu rolled in three sets against the Croatian Ivan Ljubicic.

French Julien Benneteau, 36th player in the world, eliminated American Sam Querrey, seeded and 23rd-ranked N.15, 7-6 (8 / 6), 3-6, 7-6 (7 / 2), Monday 1st round of the Rome Masters in 1000. In the next round, Benneteau will face Italian Filippo Volandri and Germany's Florian Mayer.
A little later, another French Michael Llodra, also advanced to the second round at the expense of the German Andreas Beck 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in 1 hour 57 min. Deriving qualifications, Le Parisien, 59-ranked, 2nd round face to another qualified, the Colombian Santiago Giraldo, who caused one of the first surprises of the tournament by eliminating very dryly Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero, seeded N 12, 6-0, 6-3.
