Spanish club Barcelona confirmed to football on Tuesday that the
Argentine international midfielder Lionel Messi will sign officially on
Thursday on a new contract with the team and that runs until 2018.
The Catalan club on its website that Messi winning a Golden Globe Award
for the best player in the world in the last four years, "is currently
in Sweden with Argentina and will sign Thursday a contract extension
which alleyway Barcelona until June 30, 2018."
Both Messi with his team Wednesday's friendly match at home to the
Swedish capital Stockholm before returning to Barcelona, where
extended his contract with the team for the sixth time since it was
promoted to the club's first team in 2006.
Barcelona were announced on 16 December / December last year to reach
an agreement with Macy's (25 years) to extend his contract, which
expires in 2016, two additional seasons.
Barcelona also got to extend my contract captain Carles Puyol and playmaker Xavi Hernandez until 2016.
In contrast, it was announced goalkeeper Victor Valdes (31 years), who
grew up in Barcelona and defends his colors since 2002, that he would
not extend his contract, which expires in 2014.
