"I heard that Doha was interested. That's what I heard, but nothing has been officially announced," said the Kuwaiti Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah to the Japanese news agency Kyodo.
Doha, which hosted the Asian Games in 2006, could be opposed to Tokyo, which hosted the Olympics in 1964. The Japanese capital, battered by Rio for the 2016 Games, is expected to formally announce his candidacy for the Olympics 2020.
Istanbul is also expected to run and Durban, South Africa, plans to do so.
Rome and Madrid, which was announced Wednesday, are currently the only cities that have applied for membership within two months of the deadline for applications on September 1. The lucky winner will be chosen by the International Olympic Committee in September 2013 in Buenos Aires.
