The Open - Daly opens with stunning 66.

- 0Former champion John Daly produced some spectacular early fireworks to share the early lead in The Open at St Andrews.

Daly, who won at St Andrews in 1995, reeled off seven birdies to join playing partner Andrew Coltart of Britain on 66 in the early clubhouse lead.
Dressed in striking lilac and lime green trousers, a pink tee-shirt and sleeveless lilac sweater, the flamboyant American was equally as colourful with his golf on the manicured fairways and greens of the Old Course.
The 44-year-old made the perfect start with a birdie at the first, the trigger for a succession of brilliant approach shots as he raced to the turn in 31, five under.
Daly then made further inroads after driving the 10th and two-putting for birdie before prompting a loud roar from the crowd by sinking a 12-footer at the 11th.
He also went agonisingly close to an eighth birdie at the 12th but his seven-foot attempt horse-shoed out.
Luck seemed to desert him over the closing holes as he narrowly missed makeable putts at the 14th and 15th and lipped out at the 16th before dropping his first stroke of the day when he failed to make the green in two at the 17th 'Road Hole'.
Daly then had another lipout from 12 feet at the par-four 18th.
Former Ryder Cup player Coltart flew the flag for Scotland by carding level halves of 33.
While the best of Daly's work came early in the round, the 40-year-old Scot finished with a real flourish with three birdies in the last five holes.
Coltart was a fixture on the European Tour between 1993-2007 but has twice had to go to Qualifying School since then to gain playing privileges.
Earlier Scotland's Paul Lawrie, the last British player to win a home Open, struck the first tee shot at 6:30am to get the 150th anniversary tournament under way.
Before an eager smattering of spectators, the 1999 champion found the centre of the first fairway to lead out the 156-man field in the third Major of the year.
