The New Jersey Nets have hired former Philadelphia 76ers president Billy King as their new general manager, the team said on Wednesday as they prepare to bounce back from the NBA's worst record last year.
King joined the 76ers in 1997 and was the team's general manager from 1998 to 2003, when he became the team president. He was fired by the 76ers in 2007.
"He will be an excellent fit with head coach Avery Johnson," Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov said in a statement.
"Most importantly, Billy is ambitious. He wants to win. This is what I felt when I met with him and why he will be a strong addition to the Nets organization."
King succeeds Rod Thorn, who is leaving after 10 years as the Nets' president.
The Nets, who last season set a record for the worst start to an NBA campaign when they went 0-18, finished with a league-worst 12-70 mark.
