Marseille defender Taye Taiwo, who has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, is set to stay at the club.
"Taiwo is more likely to stay than leave because Didier (Deschamps, the Marseille coach) needs him," Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier told AFP.
"The fee offered by Atletico Madrid is unacceptable."
The 25-year-old, who has been with OM since January 2005, is under contract until 2011 but Marseille want to extend his current deal.
Otherwise, the left-sided player would be available to leave for free next June, depriving OM of a transfer fee.
"Either it is extended, or there will be a departure," sporting director Jose Anigo told Provence.
Taiwo has battled with Gabriel Heinze for the left-back slot at the Velodrome and could face further competition from 23-year-old Jean-Philippe Sabo, who was loaned out to Ajaccio last season.
