Former Great Britain sprinting star Darren Campbell feels Dwain Chambers has got it all to do at this weekend's European Team Championships in Bergen.Chambers is Britain’s main man in the 100m and, after winning the world 60m indoor title in Doha in March, is one of the favourites going into the event.
The Londoner, 32, can represent Britain in non-Olympic events but, thanks to the fall out of his 2003 drug ban, he is not invited to Diamond League and other top-level events.
Campbell is concerned that his lack of competitive action may affect Chambers in Bergen.
"You have to look at what Dwain Chambers has done in the last couple of years," Campbell told Eurosport-Yahoo!.
"He hasn’t been able to compete in the big events and you need competition to help you prepare. With that, he is at a disadvantage.
"The two French lads ran extremely quickly recently (Christophe Lemaitre 10.03 seconds and Martial Mbandjock 10.09) and Dwain will have to run his quickest."
In the past Campbell has been an outspoken critic of Chambers, insisting that he should not be able to compete for Great Britain in Olympic or any competition after his ban.
Chambers has since gone on to work with UK Athletics in the fight against doping and is largely accepted back on the scene - although with other former doping cheats allowed to compete at the highest level, Campbell is concerned that there is one rule for Chambers and one rule for the others.
"(On whether it is unfair that he cannot compete in Diamond League) It's a difficult one," Campbell mused.
"Different people understandably have different feelings about this, but what is obvious is that we need rules and boundaries to stop this situation happening again.
"He's been treated differently to everyone else. No one understands the rules - if there were hard and fast ones and they did understand them, it might stop people cheating in the first place."
