Hamilton had the last word on Jenson after a mano a mano "very clean" and he is happy with his MP4, he is "behind" the Red Bull.
What a great first victory this season ...
Lewis Hamilton: It was an exciting race. We knew we had a good race pace, we could stay in contact with Red Bull. Unfortunately, we were not quick enough in the turn N.8 and it was difficult to remain in the wake of Mark (Webber, early in the race). If I was in spoiler anywhere. I had a problem during my pit stop with my right rear tire and went out behind Vettel. It became a double problem of double (both Red Bull drivers). After that, I do not really know what happened between them. However Jenson [Button] and I had a good little battle. He had me at the exit of turn N.13, but fortunately, I ironed the N.1. Was unexpected. Our fight was very clean. This is a great result for the team. Our second doubled. We deserve it really.
You must be particularly pleased to be back at Red Bull.
L.H.: Absolutely. We are right behind them for some time. They had a big lead in races. It's such an accomplishment for us to really be able to fight with them. They had an advantage on this track and we another. I do not know what will happen to future races, but they, as we have a great car. This is our second double of the season, and the third for me in four years with McLaren. I am very proud to have been able to do that.
Have you received instructions from McLaren during your fight with Jenson Button?
LH: They had to bite his nails all the time. But Martin (Whitmarsh, the head of the team) told me nothing. Only monitor gasoline.
They had to make some gray hair when we were fighting. But we do not receive instructions. We run. For me, communication was not clear when they told me to save gas. I tried to achieve this goal. And suddenly, Jenson came out of nowhere. He was right behind me. It made me so beautiful outside. Then fortunately I managed to board.
You were at the forefront of the accident Webber-Vettel. What have you seen?
LH: It was great to see, like seeing an action movie in HD or 3D. It was fantastic. It happened right in front of me ... No, actually, I had the best view of course. But the last thing you want to see. Fortunately Sebastian [Vettel] did nothing. I just saw Sebastian taken inside and Mark hold the line. I do not think that was plenty of room to go right. And he had no reason to go there. Too bad for them but fortunate for us. Much has bossé for it. Jenson and I deserve to be at the forefront for some time.
