The Renault F1 goes for the second time on the podium in Monaco in 2010. Few people would bet on it early in the season, what do you think?
James Allison: It's a nice feeling indeed, especially as this podium, we do not need anyone else to ourselves. We climbed on the podium earlier in the season in Australia, we benefited from very favorable circumstances. In Monaco, the car was very competitive all weekend, Robert was certainly faster than Vettel in the race. It feels good.
The R30 was already very competitive at Barcelona, Monaco, was one of the fastest cars. Why?
JA: Barcelona and Monaco are two very different paths. Monaco is a track where the driver can make a difference, Robert [Kubica], in particular, was exceptional throughout the weekend. Have an aero package is very important but in Monaco, have a good mechanical package can make a difference to other tracks and I think that is a strength of the R30.
The team seems to grow in confidence every race ...
JA: Already six races this season behind us, we have made real progress with the car. Each race brings its share of improvements. Even in Spain, where we have yet achieved one of our worst performances of the year race, we saw that the basic rhythm of the car was a step up from the previous weekend, we also found that we were better compared to our competitors. It is the result of hard work at the factory and the race team. The good results, race after race, just confirm that work pays and it is very encouraging for the rest of the season.
To what extent does the R30 has evolved since the first race in Bahrain?
JA: With the latest developments made in Monaco, is about 0.75 seconds per lap gain.
Is it possible to maintain this level of development for the rest of the season?
J.A.: The answer is "or". We brought something new to every race, even in Monaco when he was a back to back (two GP in a row), so we hope the same for the coming races. Moreover, there are one or two projects underway that should also enable us to take a significant new level.
People talk about revival of Renault F1 Team, you share this feeling?
JA: We've had a bad season last year and we want to put this behind us very quickly. I think we have already made a good start even though we are still very far from where we should be. This can be seen by the gap that separates us from Red Bull a classic circuit. We are moving in the right direction and I hope that our progress will meet our expectations because we have set the bar very high.
