Ernie Els has returned to success on Sunday.
Ernie Els revives success after two years of famine. The South African added a new title of world champion under his belt and over Colin Montgomerie in the rankings in career earnings on the European Tour.
The duel between South Africans turned to the advantage of the experienced Ernie Els. The task does not yet seem easier for him is called the "Big Easy". Party tied with one of the golfers that helped toughen, Charl Schwartzel and after two long years without any success, the greater scarcity of his career, the great golfer of 40 years has still found the resources to release a magnificent final round which can ultimately save his fellow four strokes. The emotion he showed after his last putt difficulty lifting his cap and his putter leaves no doubt. The joy and satisfaction had their part to give relief. "I'm forty years and you know it really has not been easy today, Els admitted. But I almost spooky. I do not think I would win again someday. But it is proof that I have done a good job in recent months. I needed to prove that I could still win. The evidence was brilliant on the course of Doral.
Els relishes:
Former world number one returns to the Top 10, when he spent more weeks than anyone else since the inception of the rankings in 1986 (759 weeks!). Ernie Els finished his tournament with a series of 23 holes without a single bogey. Charl Schwartzel, however valiant, failed to keep pace. The South African 25-year resident of the European Tour and South African Tour (Sunshine Tour), has six titles to his record on these two circuits. And he came very close to signing third successful year after two victories on home soil earlier this season. The second offers all the same Schwartzel a ticket on the American circuit in 2011, but Ernie Els has simply played too well on Sunday with a 66 (-6). "All credit goes to Ernie, Sportingly said Schwartzel. He played better than me in terms of wind but very disturbing. I stayed on his heels until hole number 15, but took a flurry of hand on my tee shot and my ball was down to a very delicate. It is the turn of the duel. The ensuing bogey gave two strokes ahead of Els. The hole number 17 will seal the fate of the match with four shots clear at the veteran South African who could then enjoy throughout the last hole.
Former world number one is still hungry:
The duel between two generations of South Africans illustrates the sad record U.S.. While Matt Kuchar finished on the podium (along with Kaymer the German and the Irishman Harrington), but only two Americans hoisted among the first 13 against five Europeans and three Australians, for example. Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker, fourteenth and sixteenth are in rhythm, without more, would do well to beware the return of Paul Casey in the world ranking with a fourth consecutive Top 10 for the Englishman, currently fifth. The "Big Easy", for its part, won the 63rd victory of his brilliant career, his second victory in World Championships, joining a small circle including Tiger Woods, Geoff Ogilvy, Darren Clarke and Phil Mickelson. It also exceeds the classification Colin Montgomery earnings on the European Tour (events of World Championships and Grand Slam circuit count for American and European). With three Grand Slam titles and more, the tall man in Johannesburg could stop there. But it now ranks third in the ranking of the FedEx Cup, who knows if he will not want to go for ten million dollars pledged at the final winner?
